The PENN Retaliate Lever Drag Jigging Reel is a compact, purpose-built reel designed for demanding jigging and offshore applications. Developed to handle everything from powerful predators in cold Arctic depths to fast-moving species in warmer waters, it combines strength, control and long-term saltwater reliability. Its fully forged aluminium frame and sideplates create a highly rigid platform that keeps the internal gearing precisely aligned under heavy load. Combined with a CNC-machined aluminium spool and stainless-steel main and pinion gears, the Retaliate delivers the solid, dependable performance required for repeated use in harsh marine environments.

By integrating the palm-side plate with the frame, PENN has created a particularly compact reel that places the drag lever within easy reach. This allows you to slow or stop a jig during the descent, target a specific layer in the water column and immediately begin working the lure once fish are located. The design is suitable for traditional vertical jigging, speed jigging and heavier slow-jigging applications.

PENN’s proven Dura-Drag™ system provides smooth and controlled drag performance, with a maximum drag rating of 14.9 kg. The Pull-To-Turn preset knob also helps prevent accidental changes to the drag setting during transport or while fishing. A 6.1:1 gear ratio and 102 cm line retrieval per handle turn deliver the speed required for effective high-pitch and speed jigging. At the same time, the easy-grip jigging knob provides secure control when working heavy jigs or applying pressure to large fish close to the bottom. The handle can be mounted at two different lengths, and an additional oval handle knob is supplied for further customisation.

In Nordic waters, the Retaliate is a strong choice for targeting halibut, large cod, coalfish, ling and redfish. It is equally suited to international jigging for species such as amberjack, grouper, yellowtail kingfish and tuna.
